The works are drawing to a close on a new-build affordable housing development in Biggleswade. Comprising a total of 19no. units, with a mixture of 2 and 3-bedroom properties, the project marks the end of our first project with Grand Union Housing Group (Client) and VE Parrott (Contractor). The scheme, formally handed over in July 2013, has been a product of a successful working relationship between all parties and will offer much needed residential accommodation within the town.

The new properties replace a former a dilapidated Sheltered Housing facility that had been derelict for a lengthy period of time prior to its demolition. The original building was incongruous to its surrounding context and did little to connect with its adjacent neighbours, whereas the proposals succeed in reintegrating the prominent site in a more positive manner. Creating a perimeter of terraced blocks to both Fairfield road and Sun Street immediately readdressed the lack of a defined building line and created a more secluded internal courtyard to the development, containing private rear gardens and car parking areas.
