brp architects design becomes 'flagship development' for Wellingborough Homes

Supported living facility - Knights Court, Wellingborough

After nearly two years brp architects are pleased to announce that the new 40no. unit Supported Living Facility at Knights Court, Wellingborough has finally been completed. The scheme becomes the flagship development for Wellingborough Homes as their largest new-build specialist residential development to date. The scheme occupies a prominent site on the edge of the town centre and has presented the Design Team with significant challenges throughout its duration, including a level change in excess of 2.7m and an existing sub-station within the site. brp architects have been instrumental in ensuring that these constraints were overcome, and through working collaboratively the end product has resulted in a stunning piece of contemporary design for Wellingborough.

The facility provides a mix of 1 and 2-bedroom apartments, all meeting with Lifetime Homes standards, including 4no. dedicated units designed specifically for wheelchair users. In addition to the residential accommodation the scheme offers a broad range of further resident amenity spaces and care support services such as the Resident Lounge, Cinema, Health and Beauty Suite, Library, Arts and Crafts Room plus Laundry facilities and Assisted Bathrooms. Accommodation is split over 3 / 4 storeys, catering for the natural change in ground level, and forms a C-shaped perimeter block that engages with the street scene as well as providing a beautiful private communal garden at the rear of the site.

In addition to the new-build element brp architects are pleased to be involved with the second phase of the project, also currently on site, which involves the full refurbishment of 3no. existing 3-storey apartment blocks at Knights Court. These all date from the 1970's but have undergone fundamental internal reconfiguration and thermal upgrades as part of a cohesive masterplan for the wider site. Using a contemporary palette of materials with buff brick supplemented by two render colours, an off white and pastel green, all four blocks are unified to create a distinctly modern residential environment with its own unique identity. Phase II is due for completion later in the year.
